Synopsis

The cost for communities to meet their water infrastructure needs is extraordinary. No matter the size of the community, the financial need often far outpaces the financial capability. Local governments are encountering critical demands to upgrade or build new treatment facilities and collection systems to reduce overflows, meet more stringent regulatory requirements, and anticipate the needs of the community for the future. With often limited means to raise revenue—either from state preemption of authority or inability of rate payers to bear additional cost burden—communities face limited options. Learn how some communities are improving their water infrastructure, including financing strategies, use of green infrastructure, and integrated planning, so they can manage projects and requirements under the Clean Water Act in a more holistic manner.
