Ashley Smith helps empower city leaders to engage directly with federal elected officials on the issues most important to them and creates advocacy strategies that support NLC’s federal policy agenda. Before joining NLC, Smith worked at M+R, where she managed the planning and execution of state- and federal-level advocacy activities and supported integrated issue advocacy campaign implementation for clients like the American Lung Association, the MacArthur Foundation, and the American Cancer Society. Previously, she worked at the Democratic Leadership Council, serving as the one of the main political contacts for their nation-wide network of elected officials, and for Hillary Clinton’s first presidential campaign. She earned a B.A. in Political Science and American Studies from the University of Kansas and an M.A. in Government, with a Political Communication Concentration, from Johns Hopkins University.
