Director of the Washington D.C. Office
Monica Fuentes is responsible for establishing and maintaining Welcoming America’s presence in Washington, D.C., including the cultivation of a portfolio of national partners and engagement of the federal government around immigrant integration policy and related issues and opportunities. Most recently, Fuentes served as the Chief Service Officer for the City of Atlanta, where she developed and oversaw strategic civic and social welfare priorities for Mayor Kasim Reed, including the city’s immigrant integration initiative, Welcoming Atlanta. Prior to joining the City of Atlanta, she worked on President Obama’s re-election campaign, first as a Regional Political Director for the Democratic National Committee and then as the Regional Voter Protection Director for East Central Florida. Previously, she served as the Director of Government Relations for the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, where she directed the organization’s advocacy and policy efforts on a range of topics including small business, access to capital and immigration. She earned her B.A. in Public Policy and Psychology from Duke University and her J.D. from The George Washington University Law School.
