Want to get more involved in the National League of Cities? Now’s your chance! Attend one of the many committee, council, or constituency group meetings at the conference and learn how you can be part of something bigger while meeting people from all over the country.


Federal Advocacy Committees

Federal Advocacy Committees are responsible for setting and developing the federal policies that are important to cities. The committee meetings at the conference are where local leaders come together and introduce the topics that will be put on the table for debate for the upcoming year. Meetings are open to all to attend and observe, but only committee members may participate in the discussion. Policy meetings will be held for the following committees at the conference:


  • Community & Economic Development
  • Energy, Environment & Natural Resources
  • Finance, Administration & Intergovernmental Relations
  • Human Development
  • Information Technology & Communications
  • Public Safety & Crime Prevention
  • Transportation & Infrastructure Services

Member Councils

Member councils bring together city leaders around shared community characteristics. Attendees who participate in the council meetings will share ideas around topics that are unique to their community setting. Meetings will be held for the following councils at the conference, and are open to all who are interested:


  • Large Cities Council
  • First Tier Suburbs Council
  • Military Communities Council
  • Small Cities Council
  • University Communities Council
  • Council on Youth, Education, and Families

Constituency Groups

Constituency groups are groups and networks which share common interests and concerns. They work collaboratively with NLC to contribute to leadership development, policy formulation, advocacy, and program activities. Constituency meetings will be held for the following groups at the conference:


  • Asian Pacific American Municipal Officials (APAMO)
  • Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Local Officials (LGBTLO)
  • Hispanic Elected Local Officials (HELO)
  • National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials (NBC-LEO)
  • Women in Municipal Government (WIMG)
