Donald Brittingham

Vice President, Public Safety Policy

Donald Brittingham leads Verizon’s efforts in promoting and advancing public policies in the areas of emergency communications, public safety, and emergency preparedness, and works closely with Verizon’s various business units, corporate strategy, technology, product development, regulatory affairs, congressional relations, and national security organizations to identify and address critical public safety issues that impact the company, its customers, and the general public. Brittingham interfaces regularly with officials at the Federal Communications Commission, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Department of Commerce, and various Congressional offices and committees. He is also Verizon’s lead advocate with national public safety organizations, including APCO International and NENA the 911 Association. He currently serves on the FCC’s Task Force for Optimal PSAP Architecture. Don has served on the Board of the NG911 Institute since 2015, and currently serves as Chair of the Institute’s Events Committee. Since 2011, Don has also served on the Board of the Industry Council for Emergency Response Technologies (iCERT), an industry association exclusively focused on the emergency response sector. Brittingham currently serves on iCERT’s Executive Committee as its Vice Chair, and as Chair of its Public Policy Committee. Working in close collaboration with public safety officials and others in the public sector, iCERT supports research and advocacy initiatives that will improve emergency response efforts across the nation. Brittingham has helped to lead iCERT’s efforts in advancing effective public safety policies at the FCC and on Capitol Hill, including in areas such 911/NG911, location accuracy, and public safety broadband communications. In 2016, Brittingham helped to lead iCERT’s efforts in establishing and launching the NG911 NOW Coalition, a joint effort of iCERT, NENA, and NASNA to accelerate NG911 deployment by the end of 2020.
