Dr. Branville Bard

Branville Bard, Jr. became the City of Cambridge Police Department’s fourth Police Commissioner in August 2017. Prior to leading the Cambridge Police Department, Bard served as the Chief of Police and Director of Public Safety of the Philadelphia Housing Authority Police Department. He began his law enforcement career as a member of the Philadelphia Police Department where he proudly served for nearly 22 years before retiring at the rank of Inspector. Bard has earned a Doctorate in Public Administration from Valdosta State University, he holds two Master’s degrees (Public Safety Management and Criminal Justice) and a B.A. in Criminal Justice. Bard has previously been appointed to serve as the Co-Chair of Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney’s transition team for Public Safety and a member of the Criminal Justice Advisory Board (CJAB) for the Community College of Philadelphia. He is a proud graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Academy, the Drug Enforcement Agency’s Drug Unit Commanders Academy (DUCA), the Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute of Policing and holds a certificate in leadership from the Harvard Kennedy School.
