Eric Barton

Wagstaff & Cartmell LLP

Eric Barton handles complex commercial litigation and class actions. Many of his cases involve antitrust, breaches of contract or business torts, pharmaceuticals, and defective products. After graduating from the University of Kansas School of Law with honors in 1993 and before starting practice, Barton served appellate clerkships for the U.S. Court of Appeals, Tenth Circuit (Hon. Stephen H. Anderson) and Kansas Supreme Court (Hon. Fred N. Six). Barton has been repeatedly included in Super Lawyers for Business Litigation (Missouri and Kansas). His clients have included publicly traded corporations, state governments, small businesses, and individuals. He handles many matters under contingency or alternative billing agreements where he shares risk with his clients. Currently, Barton serves as outside counsel for the State of Kansas, and the Commonwealth of Kentucky, in unrelated matters relating to consumer protection. He also represents hundreds of corn farmers from several Midwestern states making claims against Syngenta for damages arising from Syngenta’s commercialization of a GMO trait prior to obtaining import approval from China and that caused China to start rejecting imports of U.S. corn.
