Juan Garcia

Global Leader for Career Advancement

Juan Garcia oversees innovative programs that help Amazon’s nearly 300,000 associates around the world advance their careers – whether that means staying at Amazon or pursuing their personal and professional passions elsewhere. Those programs include Career Choice – Amazon’s peculiar take on a tuition assistance program – and The Offer, wherein once a year Amazon offers to pay employees to quit.

Prior to joining Amazon in 2015, Garcia spent six years serving as Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Navy for Manpower and Reserve Affairs, appointed to the position by President Obama. Previously in the Navy, Garcia was a Naval aviator, flying missions in the Persian Gulf, western Pacific Ocean, and southeast Europe.

Garcia also served a term in the Texas House of Representatives. He is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles, and both Harvard’s Law School and its Kennedy School of Government.
