Eli Segal Fellow
Corporation for National and Community Service
Tia has dedicated her career to making the world a better place, first with one person, and now one project at a time. Tia was born and raised in Wisconsin. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work. Tia participated in her university’s first cohort of undergraduate Title IV-E students where she made a commitment to serve families impacted by poverty, substance abuse and violence. At the beginning of her career, Tia provided direct case management to children and families involved in the child welfare and juvenile justice system. After taking a trip to volunteer in the Philippines, her passion for disaster relief was ignited and she joined AmeriCorps-FEMA Corps. She served for one year with a national incident management team, carrying out exercises to prepare for national response. During her service year she deployed to record floods in South Carolina as well as the aftermath of a typhoon on Guam. Tia is inspired by the thousands of citizens, young and old, who devote themselves to improving the lives of others through CNCS programs. This inspiration brought her back to AmeriCorps, now in her fellowship position. Here she is able to learn how decisions are made at the federal level and provide feedback and input on how these decisions impact both AmeriCorps service members as well as recipients of program services. In her free time she enjoys running, hiking and practicing yoga.
